Suicide Prevention

According to the 2021 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, more than 27% of Indiana high school students in 2021 had seriously considered attempting suicide. In Indiana, suicide is the second leading cause of death for middle and high school aged Hoosiers. In addition, an FBI review of past school shootings discovered nearly half of school-aged active shooters had thoughts of suicide or at-risk behavior.

If you have thoughts of death or suicide, do one of the following immediately:

  1. Contact a doctor;
  2. Go to the emergency room; or
  3. Call 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or 1-800-SUICIDE (1-800-784-2433).
